How your adoption helps to protect dolphins

By adopting a dolphin through the Marine Connection, you are not only helping to save and protect dolphins in the Moray Firth area but dolphins worldwide. Threats to marine mammals are on the increase; almost 1,000 whales, dolphins and porpoises die daily in fishing nets and each year, up to 20,000 dolphins and small whales are slaughtered in Japan. Wild dolphins are still captured for display in marine parks or to participate in dolphin swim programmes worldwide - many in appalling conditions.

However the Marine Connection is committed to making a difference for these animals, no matter how many other issues we have to deal with on a daily basis, the charity will not ignore urgent pleas and aim to act immediately on behalf of dolphins and whales that require assistance. The Moray Firth is recognised as being of European importance for its bottlenose dolphins, and part of the Firth has been designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) to help protect the dolphin population. If you share the charity's belief that all dolphins need protecting, then please adopt Swanee, Whistler, Sailfin or Black & Decker today.

Money raised via our adoption programme plays a huge part in assisting the charity with its work - vital to the future conservation and protection of these highly sociable, intelligent marine mammals.
