Dolphin bycatch continues in UK waters

In only the past week alone, over 20 dolphins have washed up dead on the UK
southwest's beaches. Initial post-mortem results of two of the dolphins
indicate that these animals have died as a result of entanglement in fishing
gear. It is estimated that only see 10% of the bodies washed ashore are
seen.
Marine Connection Bycatch/Fisheries officer Lissa Goodwin said, “The
bycatch problem has not gone away with the 12 nautical mile ban on pair
trawling for sea-bass, dolphins are still being caught in fishing
operations. The numbers of dolphins washed up in the past few days
demonstrate the scale of the problem. Each and every one of us can make a real difference, members of the public
must help by making informed choices about which seafood they buy. 'Fish4Ever' is not only completely “dolphin friendly” but also comes from
sustainable fisheries, which cause no damaging effect to the local marine
ecosystem”
Fish4Ever and the Marine Connection are committed to ethical trading,
providing the UK consumer with a choice of tinned tuna, mackerel, herring,
sardines and anchovies. The Marine Connection strongly supports responsible
forms of fishing practice that do not cause undue damage to the marine
environment. The charity also believes that it is vital to give the
consumers the information they need to make their fish purchases
responsibly.
Each and every one of us can make a real difference and help stop the needless death and suffering of dolphins and other marine life, by simply purchasing our fish from an ethical source.
