Marine Connection trustee receives an OBE
The Marine Connection are delighted to announce that Alan Knight, one of our valued trustees, has been awarded an OBE in recognition of his contribution towards work in animal welfare.
Alan, also Head of International Animal Rescue and Chairman of British Divers Marine Life Rescue, said he was “Thrilled to receive this award” and felt this was not only a personal honour but that it also reflected the importance to animals and animal welfare in the UK.
He accepted the award not only for himself but as a tribute to the teams of people who work with him on many projects to save animals around the world and on behalf of the animals that we all work so hard to protect. Alan also stated that “one individual can inspire and motivate others, but it is only by joining forces and working as a team that we can be truly effective in the field of animal rescue. Efforts like the operation to rescue the Thames whale earlier this year would have no chance of success without a well-trained and experience network of volunteers prepared to respond rapidly to a call for help that may save an animal's life. Credit is due to the rescue team as a whole in this type of emergency situation rather than to any one individual”.
Director, Margaux Dodds said “It is this attitude that makes Alan Knight a truly valued member of our team and why we are proud to have him as one of the trustees of the Marine Connection. Furthermore, we are sure that Alan will faithfully keep to his word to use this opportunity to further raise awareness of animal welfare issues and to highlight the work of the charities he represents.”
