Dolphins arrive in the Bahamas
16 of the 17 dolphins that were left homeless after Hurricane Katrina have now been moved to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.
The move had been delayed as former president of Marine Animal Productions (MAP), Moby Solangi, is suing MAP over stock ownership. On 3rd January MAP received the permits it needed to go-ahead with the move. The dolphins were transported from their various temporary locations to Mobile, Alabama on Thursday and then flown to the Bahamas.
One of the dolphins was left behind due to the fact that it was ill and will join the others when it recovers. Upon arrival in the Bahamas the dolphins were transported under armed guard to the resort.
Marine Connection Captivity Officer Allan Whaley stated ‘Back in November when the Atlantis Resort were first connected with the remaining dolphins in the Solomon Islands, they stated in the press that their dolphin facility was still in the planning stage. They must have very quick working builders in the Bahamas to enable this facility to go from the planning stage to accepting dolphins in two months! In my opinion this just goes to show that the word of Atlantis Resort cannot be trusted.’
