No dolphins for Hilton (Cleo Park), Sharm el Sheikh

The Marine Connection is delighted to receive confirmation today (3 July), that the Hilton Sharm Dreams Vacation Club in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt has taken the decision not to accommodate any type of marine mammals on site either now or in the future even although Aspro, the group who are running the park have 25 parks across Europe, some of which contain dolphins. Their two parks in the UK are Deep Sea World (Fife) and Blue Planet Aquarium(Cheshire).

Since first discovering plans to build a dolphinarium at the complex in July 2005, the Marine Connection and its supporters have been campaigning to prevent the construction of a dolphin pool at this development and the import of any marine mammals. Now, almost a year to the day of the start of our campaign against the plans, Hilton Sharm Dreams Vacation Club have confirmed the AquaPark will not house marine mammals, however the Marine Connection will continue to monitor the situaiton very closely given Aspro's involvement.

The Marine Connection would like to thank all our supporters for writing letters and supporting this campaign, your help is vital to the success of campaigns such as this.

We applaud the Hilton Sharm Dreams Vacation Club for taking this decision but are still calling on Hilton Sharm Dreams Resort not to sell excursions to Dolphinella captive dolphin facility in Sharm el Sheikh from the entertainments desk at the hotel.

Please send a polite email to the Hilton Sharm Dreams Vacation Club applauding them on their decision not to have marine mammals at their complex in Sharm and demand that they do not allow Aspro to reverse this decision in the future.

Although Hilton has said no to a dolphinarium on their site in Egypt, please note that they still have a dolphinarium onsite at the Hilton Waikoloa Village in Hawaii.
