Marine Connection 'Safety Nets Ball 2007'
Join the Marine Connection for a unique event at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on 31 October 2007.
 |
The Marine Connection 'Safety Nets Ball' is to help raise funds for the charity’s ongoing work to address the issue of bycatch – which causes the needless deaths of at least 300,000 dolphins, whales and porpoises each year due to entanglement in fishing nets. |
Lissa Goodwin, Fisheries and Policy Officer for the Marine Connection reports "Under the Habitats Directive, EU Member States are obliged to monitor the incidental capture of cetaceans and take further research or conservation measures as required to ensure that it does not have a significant negative impact on the species concerned. This is clearly not happening as when dolphins wash ashore around the south-west, many of them continue to bear the characteristic marks of being caught and entangled in netting".
Hosted by former professional footballer and now favourite sports presenter, Jason Cundy and Ce Ce Sammy, a classically trained music graduate who has coached many chart acts including Will Young. More recently she was one of Bruno Tonioli's panelists on BBC One's DanceX.
 |
The Safety Nets Ball will feature a catwalk show presented by top international fashion designer Eric Way to showcase a selection of fishnet stockings and fishnet vests personally customised by some of the charity’s top celebrity supporters, including; Shayne Ward, Orlando Bloom, John Terry, Paul O'Grady, David Gest, Lisa Snowdon, the Sugababes and Charlotte Church to support the charity's ongoing Safety Nets campaign under the theme "These fishnets don't kill dolphins". |
These and other exciting, money can’t buy items, such as a Fender Stratocaster guitar signed by Bryan Adams will form part of a thrilling charity auction to help raise vital funds for this campaign.
The evening will be attended by a host of celebrity guests and will feature the fantastic Club de Fromage whose DJ's will be providing some fantastic party music - all this plus an amazing live personal performance by charity supporters, UK chart toppers the Sugababes makes this an event not to be missed.
