The real alternative to seeing captive whales & dolphins

Technological advancement means that today we have many opportunities to see and learn about these animals; via webcam links to dolphins and whales in their natural environment, excellent natural history programmes on television, satellite channels and available on DVD - all of which help to provide an insight into a world that many of us may not be fortunate enough to visit.

Many people are unaware that, with a bit of effort, dolphins and whales can be seen in their natural environment - even around the British Isles - but this has to be done with respect and care.

Concerns have been raised with regards to dolphin and whale watching, and the effects this has on the animals. However by choosing your trip responsibly, you can actually contribute to the protection and study of these animals, as many operators carry out research into the wild population which helps to play a role in their welfare and protection.

Next time you are planning a holiday, please think about taking a trip to see dolphins and whales in the wild, but you must use a responsible operator - one that follows a strict Code of Conduct, to ensure minimum disturbance to the animals. For details of responsible operators in your holiday choice destination, please email the charity and we will do what we can to assist.

The future and lives of many marine mammals depends on whether people are willing to investigate good wildlife practice of where to see them in the wild and learn more about them, or take the "easy option" to see them in a marine park or swim with them in captivity, so please make your choice wisely for their future protection.
