Jamaica
Pending approvals Miami and Key Largo based rehabilitation company, Dolphin Human Therapy, plans to move its practice to Jamaica to a proposed $500 million dolphin attraction.
Dr. David Nathanson, who offered Dolphin Human Therapy (DHT) in Miami at Dolphin Cove, says he will be relocating his business to Jamaica once the therapy centre is built. He anticipates that the new marine attraction could bring in an additional 67,600 more visitors per year for average stays of three weeks each.
The Marine Connection believe that, while there is certainly something special about being in the vicinity of dolphins and whales, to attribute them with these powers is irresponsible and certainly no basis to condone keeping them in captivity.
The charity believes that DAT programmes profit from an already vulnerable sector people who, understandably, wish to do anything in their power to alleviate stress and suffering caused due to autism, despression or other illnesses which this type of therapy claim to help.
