| The truth behind Dolphinella's false claims
DOLPHINELLA CLAIMS - "Our sweet dolphins were born in a pool and they have never known sea life." (sign outside Dolphinella) AND "All our dolphins were born and growed up in dolphins amusement parks. It does not know their natural life, their natural environment." ("About Us" section on Dolphinella's website)
FALSE - In fact Dolphinella holds one wild caught dolphin which originated in Russia. The Marine Connection are in possession of a copy of the
Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) export permit detailing the transfer of the three dolphins from Russia to Dolphinella in Egypt. It is indicated on this permit that one dolphin is in fact WILD CAUGHT.

"Our sweet dolphins were born in a pool and they have never known sea life. They are like indoor pussy cats and if we tried to put them in the sea, they will die because now they are used to have consistent human care."

DOLPHINELLA CLAIMS - "The scientific research aprove that the longevity of "living free " is shorter in their natural environment then in amusement parks. The main reasons of this are: contamination of environment, fishing-nets, skin diseaster, lameness etc." ("About Us" section on Dolphinella's website)
FALSE - At best, captive dolphins, whether wild-caught or captive-bred, tend to live only about as long as their wild counterparts. Considering Dolphinella's claim that their dolphins are protected from the inherent "dangers" they would face in their natural environment (but for which they are specifically adapted), as well as human-caused hazards, it is significant that captive dolphins do not show improved mortality rates even after 60 years of husbandry refinement and even though they receive regular veterinary care and face no predators, no pollution, no food shortages, and no storms or boat collisions.
This suggests that dolphins suffer from stress associated with captivity, regardless of their origin. In addition, mortality rates for calves born in captivity are similar to those for calves born in the wild. Since wild-born calves are subject to predation, illness, being separated from their mothers and a host of other natural and human-caused threats, captive-breeding programs should show a much higher survival rate in captivity, but this is not the case.
It is quality of life that needs to be considered, not the quantity of life - many animals in captivity live longer than their wild counterparts but this does not mean they have a better quality of life being confined and reliant within a captive facility.
