Basic Code of Conduct for boat users


When dolphins or whales are in the vicinity;

DO NOT

- Chase or steer head-on to the animals, let them come to you
- Compete for the attention of the animals
- Alter course sharply or suddenly slow down / speed up
- Attempt to feed, touch or swim with the animals
- Travel at high speeds or rev the boats engine(s)
- Start the engine until you are sure the animals are clear of the vessel

DO

- Slow down if you see animals in the distance
- Slow or stop the engine if they are close to your vessel
- Limit the amount of time you spend around the animals
- ALWAYS respect they are wild animals, protected by law

It is an offence to disturb or harass any dolphin under the Countryside & Rights of Way Act 2000 and also under the Wild Mammals Protection Act 1996 and offenders can be prosecuted.
