No justice for Morgan
The Marine Connection are saddened by the ruling made by the courts in the Netherlands that Morgan, the young orca currently being held at Harderwijk dolfinarium will remain in captivity and will likely be moved to Loro Parque in Tenerife in the near future.
Many of us involved in trying to ensure that Morgan would have the option to return to the wild, will not give up on the effort that this be possible in the future. There were many excellent, well founded arguments put forward during the hearing by experts such as Ingrid Visser, world reknowned for her work with and knowledge of orcas, to support the case for Morgan's rehabilitation and release, sadly the case put forward by the captivity industry appears to have had a sympathetic ear from the judge and for now, the decision is that she remain in captivity.
There is little doubt that those with a vested commercial interest in Morgan remaining in captivity fought hard to convince the judge this was the only option for her future. They have after all, secured a very valuable breeding female orca to restock the captivity gene pool - something which is hard to obtain and they have done so for free!
The fight for Morgan to live wild and free will continue, all concerned with her future and welfare will not give up on obtaining this, her legal birthright, to return to the ocean where she was born.
