Update - Hurghada protest

Our colleagues and concerned locals in Hurghada gathered outside the Dolphin World facility in Makadi Bay on Sunday 8 May in protest against the recent death of a dolphin and calling for the facility to close.

Hurghada dolphin death

Reports coming from Hurghada state that one of the 4 dolphins brought into the facility at Makadi Bay from the Ukraine has died during the quarantine period.

We have contacted CITES to enquire as to cause of death and why the facility was allowed to open to VIP guests and the media for four days whilst the quarantine period was still in place and also what tests have been conducted on the remaining animals to ensure their welfare. We await their response and will report further when this has been received.

Makadi Bay facility is owned by 'Seascope' who operate the yellow submarine excursions which are popular with many tour operators to the Hurghada area including TUI.
