Could sewage leak be a threat to dolphins

Thousands have had their holiday ruined due to a sewage leak in Eilat on the Red Sea. This is of extreme concern not only for public health but due to the extensive area of the leak, over hundreds of cubic metres of the Red Sea area, authorities feel this may harm the delicate marine life in the Gulf of Aquaba.

Officials at Dolphin Reef, the facility in Eilat where dolphins are kept in penned off areas to interact with paying customers, have said that despite the leak their dolphins will not be moved to another location but will be treated with antibiotics. In the meantime repair works are now underway to the pipes and water quality will be examined before any decision to reopen the beaches to the public will be made.
