'Dolphin Tale' - the full story
The new movie 'Dolphin Tale' is supposed to tell the story of Winter, a young dolphin rescued by Clearwater Aquarium after her tail was removed in a fishing trap and it was feared the dolphin would not survive in the wild.
 |
However, the movie does not tell the entire story. In reality, whilst Winter may have been given a new prosthetic tail, she lives a miserable lonely life - performing 3 shows a day, 7 days a week to thousands of paying customers. In between shows, Winter is kept in a tiny holdiing side pool, with her pool-mate Panama, who is deaf. Currently Clearwater Aquarium makes money from such a high profile attraction and are already planning a $12million expansion, the movie makers will make money from movie goers but just what is this achieving for Winter? Also, why could she not have been given the chance in the wild, after all there are records of a humpback whale (known as Stumpy) who has lived very successfully in the wild in Australian waters and does not have a tailfluke.
See what life is really like for this sad, vulnerable dolphin. Being an acoustic animal it is clear that she is in discomfort and stressed from all the noise she is subjected to in her concrete tank every day from crowds, music and other related noise in the aquarium. She deserves better than this - rescued to be subjected to this horrific situation, please watch this video and help spread the word about the 'real' story of Winter and how this facility, and the movie makers, are profiting from her disability.
