Fight to Free Morgan continues

Update ** 6 March 2011 **

As part of our on-going efforts on Morgan's behalf, we recently contacted CITES asking for answers to the questions which we had put to them. During our discussions we were informed that our comments/questions had been passed to Dr van Dijken, the ASCOBANS/ACOBATS representative of the Department of Nature, Landscape and Rural Affairs at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture & Innovation for response.

Dr van Dijken confirmed that the dolphinarium is authorised to continue to hold Morgan for a limited time in order to find a new home and that although currently the dolphinarium is trying to find a suitable new location for Morgan, Dr van Dijken stressed that, up until now, no application had been received to transport her. It is very disappointing that despite the fact that there are varying opinions from experts worldwide on the feasibility of Morgan being released back into the wild, the only option being considered is keeping her in captivity. We are delighted that so many are still supporting the campaign to Free Morgan, thanks to all who have signed the petition which shows the strength of public support for this young whale.

Authorities in the Netherlands announced recently it has been decided that Morgan, the young female orca, is to remain in captivity.

The Marine Connection is supporting continued for Morgan to be given the opportunity to live free in the wild, and as part of an ongoing campaign FreeMorgan.com has issued a press release urging those responsible for Morgan's future to consider other options rather than simply agree that she should remain in a captive facility for the remainder of her natural life.

The Press Release and further details can be viewed by visiting the FreeMorgan.com site
