TV host swims with dolphins at Atlantis, Bahamas
Kelly Ripa, one of the hosts of the American television talk show “Live with Regis and Kelly” swam with the dolphins at Atlantis, Bahamas.
Atlantis houses dolphins that were 'rescued' when the Marine Life Oceanarium was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Although the animals are kept in sea pens they are still captive. Dolphins which would normally in the wild travel hundreds of miles throughout oceans and dive hundreds of feet are, at Atlantis, contained in a shallow bay a tiny fraction of the size of the usual area they would have in their natural habitat to explore and hunt.
The owners of Atlantis, Kerzner International also owns the Palm Atlantis Resort in Dubai, which recently imported 28 wild caught dolphins from the Solomon Islands.
