The Cove - UK release date announced

The Marine Connection is delighted to announce the UK release date of 'The Cove' will be 23 October 2009. The film, released by Vertigo films, exposes the truth about the international dolphin capture and trade practiced in Taiji, Japan during the annual drive hunts.

The film follows Ric O'Barry, recognised worldwide for his work as trainer on the 1960's TV show Flipper who now campaigns against the keeping of dolphins and whales in captivity, on a covert mission to expose this shocking secret. O'Barry and his team infiltrate the secret bay where the dolphin population is cruelly controlled, out of sight of Japanese citizens and media.

Margaux Dodds, Marine Connection director comments; "I have had the honour of working with Ric for many years on issues including the drive hunts in Japan. His tireless commitment to ending this trade, despite threats to the safety of himself and his family is highly commendable. In Ric we find a true dolphin defender who, from experience, truly believes these intelligent mammals do not belong in captivity. For many years these kills and captures have been hidden, and those who have tried to highlight this have been threatened or silenced, now thanks to the collaboration between Oceanic Preservation Society and Ric, this formiddable and brave team have brought the truth to the big screen - now the truth can no longer be denied by Japan."

The Cove is the winner of 12 awards including; the 2009 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award, Sydney Film Festival Audience Award, Seattle International Film Festival and most recently, Best Feature Documentary at the Galway Film Festival.
