Cleaner Thames Challenge

Once again, the Marine Connection is supporting environmental charity Thames21, to help bring together volunteers for the ‘Cleaner Thames Challenge’ taking place at low tide on the Isle of Dogs, East London from 27 to 30 September 2007.

In 2006, this stretch of the River Thames was described as one of the most littered in London and through a dozen clean ups with hundreds of volunteers, over 40 tonnes of litter has now been removed.

At low tide, small and large items of litter blight the Isle of Dogs foreshore including huge quantities of harmful plastics. Over the past year at least 30,000 plastic carrier bags have also been collected that were clogging up the foreshore, therefore Thames21 need as many bodies as possible once again for late September.

Participants can do as much or as little as they like and all equipment including boots and rubbish bags will be provided.
