| Costa Rica takes steps to protect cetaceans
Costa Rican President Oscar Arias and Environmental Minister Robert Dobles recently signed a decree to protect whales and dolphins from being hunted in Costa Rican waters. The decree details that "any pursuit, capture, injury, netting or commercialization of any whale and dolphin groups in the Costa Rican sea boundaries is forbidden, and now against the law."
Although Costa Rica has never fished or hunted for whales or dolphins in their waters Costa Rica came under heavy pressure from the Japanese which resulted in Robert Dobles attending the International Whaling Commission meeting to vote against reinstating a limited hunting proposal.
Take action
Please write a short email to President Arias thanking him for taking this action to help protect dolphins & whales and not supporting Japans' proposals at the IWC.
