'Dog Whisperer' supports captive dolphin swims

The Marine Connection were astonished to learn that 'Dog Whisperer', Cesar Milan, had recently visited a dolphin swim facility in Cancun, all of which he is wholeheartedly supporting on his website.

Please add your comment asking him to reconsider his support of this type of facility and urging Cesar to show respect for dolphins.

"Cesar, I have so much admiration for the gentle, intelligent way you treat dog problems and the respect you have for their individual personalities, so much so, that I am absolutely lost for words by the fact you chose to swim with captive animals. You must know that these mammals are very intelligent and sentient and captivity causes them stress, anxiety and shortens their natural lifespan. I know you would never condone someone kidnapping dogs just to make money but that is what the captivity industry continues to do. Although not all dolphins are wild caught, due to poor birth rates in captivity, constant demand cannot be met without tearing wild populations apart. This industry continues to create more demand for more animals and this entails removing wild dolphins from the ocean for marine parks and swim with programmes, like the one you are now endorsing . This is not education or conservation, simply a money making scheme for marine parks worldwide, who know that people have developed a passion to swim with these dolphins - but at what cost to the animals? If you wanted to help educate people to respect these magnificent creatures you could have seen them in the wild in Mexican waters and helped conservation and protection efforts, instead you have, perhaps unknowingly, promoted their capture and imprisonment for human desire. I am hoping that, having read many of the posts on this thread, that you may reconsider your support of swimming with dolphins in captivity and promote the respect for this species, just as you do, with great success, for our canine friends."
