Dolphins Killed in Taiji Cove

Rumours report that up to 50 striped dolphins have been killed in Taiji, the first slaughter for several weeks when some Risso's dolphins lost their lives to Japanese fishermen.

Several other pods to date have managed to escape but this recent killing is so unnecessary and brutal. A mother and calf were in the pod of Risso's, and the hearts of activists currently on the ground in Taiji sink every time boats leave the harbour. This recent pod were not fortunate enough to escape and within hours were needlessly killed, one of the animals was kept alive and is now destined to spend the rest of its life in captivity, never to see the ocean again.

The drives in Japan kill thousands of dolphins each year, with many more being sent to a life in captvity - what have these dolphins done to deserve this and we have to ask what makes the public visit captive facilities, knowing that animals continue to be taken from the wild to stock them?
