Although rumours have been circulating for some years, India may soon have its first ever aquarium-based theme park in Sindhudurg district, south of Mumbai and a few kilometres north of Goa.

Along with theme restaurants and water sports facilities, there are plans to also have a dolphinarium. Tourism minister Chhagan Bhujbal and industries minister Narayan Rane recently made a presentation to the cabinet who is expected to approve the private-public partnership project. The idea of a park at Sindhudurg was first mooted at the state cabinet meeting in Sindhudurg in 2009.
