General Law of Wildlife
The Amendment to Article 55 and 60 prohibits international trade in Marine Mammals and Primates except for approved scientific purposes and specifically not for commercial purposes.
(Effective date January 23, 2006).
Decree that adds Article 55 and a third paragraph to article 60 of the General Wildlife Law.
Vicente Fox Quesada, President of Mexico, lets the people know that the Honorable Congress of Mexico has ordered me to announce that:
The General Congress of the United States of Mexico decrees:
An extra article 55 and a third paragraph to article 60 be added to the Wildlife Law
Unique articles: Article 55 and a third paragraph to article 60 are both added to the Wildlife Law as follows:
Article 55:
Importation, exportation, and re-exportation of specimens of any marine mammal or primate species are prohibited, including their parts and derivatives, with the exception of those destined for scientific research previously authorized by the Secretariat.
Article 60:
No specimens of primates of any species will be approved for removal, whether for subsistence or for commerce. The only authorized capture will be for restoration, re-population, and reintroduction of these species into their natural habitat.
This decree will become effective the day after its publication in the Official National Gazette.
