Morgan on show to the public again

Marine Connection has received news that, once again, Morgan the orca currently held at Harderwijk dolphinarium is on show to the public.

Colleague John Kielty of the Orca Project has produced an incredible report on deficiencies in record keeping by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS); the US Government Agency responsible for maintaining Marine Mammal Inventory Reports (MMIRs) and issuing permits for the taking, import and export of marine mammals under the US Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA).

The report reveals shockingly sparse data within the MMIR database in relation to captive orcas and has been sent to all governing bodies of the MMPA with the aim that by highlighting the non-compliance issues this will help discourage and prevent the approval of any permits to import Morgan into any US based marine parks, including SeaWorld, should they seek to obtain her to add to their collection of captive orcas.
