Click here for LATEST NEWS & UPDATES on this campaign

Egypt promotes the Red Sea as one of the best destinations on earth to see marine life in its' natural environment. This provides Egypt with crutial revenue, with divers in particular returning year after year from the UK and Europe. However, this country is also now making a profit from keeping dolphins in captivity.

One such facility is 'Dolphinella' situated in Sharm el Sheikh. The Marine Connection were alerted to the plight of 2 beluga whales being kept in horrendous conditions at this facility in Autumn 2004. After negotiations with CITES in Cairo the belugas were confiscated, and the owners were told the animals must be returned to their place of origin (Russia). The belugas were then transferred to a facility in Cairo to await transportion back to Russia.
