Help us stop Olympic making profit from dolphin misery

The promotion by Olympic is for a free excursion to a dolphin show/swim facility for all arrivals between 6th November and 4th December 2005 at a number of their hotels.

The promotion reads: ‘Don't miss a unique opportunity to swim and play with some dolphins or enjoy this experience in the shallow end of the pool. Only 6 people are allowed in at once, so you need to book early to enjoy a half hour to remember forever. You can also watch a great family show with 3 trained dolphins that will perform for you. Fun for all the family!’

Divers and dolphin enthusiasts around the world are already familiar with Dolphinellas’ reputation and it definitely isn't for family fun. For anyone not familiar with this captive dolphin facility, we at Marine Connection had 2 Belugas whales confiscated from the facility late last year due to unsuitable conditions. The charity still receive numerous complaints from tourists returning from Sharm el Sheikh regarding this facility, many raising concern for the welfare of the 3 remaining dolphins. Public condenmation of allowing captive dolphin facilities in Sharm el Sheikh, has resulted in numerous dive companies and tour operators refusing to promote this facility. McDonalds also withdrew their support and promotion of the facility after the Marine Connection contacted them advising of our concerns and public feeling against the facility.

The Marine Connection contacted Olympic Holidays providing them with background details on Dolphinella and listing our concerns, asking them to comment. Despite our attempts via email and fax we have yet to receive any response from Olympic.

Please email Olympic Holidays voicing your concerns over their promotion of this facility and ask them if, given the information they now have to hand, they will stop their promotion of Dolphinella and any other captive dolphin facilities, either via their website or by their representatives in hotels in Sharm el Sheikh.

The Marine Connection would welcome copies of any response you receive.
