Protection from dumping a step closer for whale sanctuary
The Marine Connection has received an email of sincere thanks from our colleagues in Maui following our efforts in supporting the campaign to stop dumping of sewage into the waters of the Humpback Whale Sanctuary off Maui and for helping to persuade the authorities to bring into force legislation to make this practice illegal. Having submitted testimony to the legislature for HCR 58 and HR 39, we are delighted to advise these have now both been passed, and there is even more good news.
HCR 58 has also now crossed to the Senate and been referred to the Intergovernmental & Military Affairs (IGM) and the Energy & Environment (ENE) committees. SCR 114 is now scheduled for a public hearing on 12 April 2007 before the ENE committee and the charity has today submitted a testimony asking for this resolution to be passed.

On Tuesday 17 April 2007 there was a further hearing asking the federal government to pass resolution HCR58 HD1 to stop the dumping of waste in the whale sanctuary. The Marine Connection has sent our testimonial to support this resolution and will update on the outcome following Tuesdays hearing.
