Mass dolphin stranding in Massachusetts

On 15 January 2008, 17 Atlantic white-sided dolphins were found beached, 10 at Loagey Bay and 7 at the Herring River, Massachusetts.

Although one dolphin was alive when rescuers from the Cape Cod Stranding Network arrived it was found to be beyond assistance and the decison was taken to euthanize the animal.

Several of the bodies of the dead dolphins will now be subject of a post mortem examination in an attempt to ascertain what caused them to strand.
