22 January 2008 - NEWS UPDATE

After such high hopes for this animal yesterday we are saddened by reports of a dead dolphin which has washed up on a Bournemouth beach today - which could be the same animal. We will confirm as soon as any further news is received.

Good news for stranded dolphin

A common dolphin which stranded at a beach in Marazion on the South Cornwall coast yesterday (16 January), has been successfully released by colleagues from BDMLR.

Local medics were called out to assess the animal however it was felt that due to adverse weather/sea conditions at Marazion, it was going to prove difficult to attempt a release at the stranding site. Therefore, following initial checks by the vet the dolphin was transported to Carbis Bay where, after final checks were carried out and the dolphins' condition was considered stable, it was released. The dolphin was observed swimming around in the area for a short while before heading out into deeper waters – apparently none the worse for its’ adventure!
